This Super-tenor has a cutaway tenor sized body but a near baritone-length neck.  The body bracing has been augmented to handle the necessary string tension, and the saddle slot angled to better intonate a low-G tuning.  The resulting instrument has the tonal characteristics of a tenor ukulele, a fingering reach more like a baritone ukulele, and the projection and power of a tenor guitar.  It's a satisfying combination for a low-G tenor picker who wants to be heard.  Beautiful tone and accurate pitch in an instrument guarenteed to turn heads.

Completed July, 2019 - This was my project uke for an advanced ukulele building class I took from luthiers Jay Lichty and Robbie O'Brien.  The class included several "firsts" for me and I learned a lot, but I also did a lot of things my way.  The project yielded (in my opiniion) my best sounding (and longest scale) tenor yet.

Cavaquinho #6

Cavaquinho #6

Cavaquinhos are Brazilian instruments that are historically related to ukuleles.  They have steel strings, are tuned differently than ukuleles, and typically have oversized headstocks, oversized rosettes, and a thicker, more guitar shaped body.  Since they have higher tension steel strings they are internally more similar to steel stringed guitars though externally look more like classical guitars.  The fraternal twin of this instrument (#5) was a commission.
